The Scholarship

Set up just after the end of the Second World War in honor of Franklin Delano Roosevelt the Nottingham Roosevelt Travelling Scholarship is an annual award enabling young people living and working in Nottinghamshire to visit the USA for up to 3 months to investigate a work related topic of their choice. To date over 180 scholars have been awarded this prestigious Scholarship.

Scholars fly to New York and extensive travel throughout the USA is encouraged so that scholars can appreciate the climatic, social, cultural and geographic variations of the United States. During this time scholars will be expected to be an ambassador for the city and county of Nottingham.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the scholarship applicants must be aged between 21 and 30 years old and live or work in Nottinghamshire. No formal qualifications are required and areas of research are entirely the applicants choice.

How to apply

This is an annual award.  Applications for 2010 scholars will be accepted next year via the official Nottingham Roosevelt Travelling Scholarship website.

2009 Scholars

This year I was one of two lucky people to be awarded the scholarship. The other scholar is Kim Melvill-Smith who will be researching  the models and systems used in education in the US that encourage the participation of the parent and the wider community in the education system.
